"An innovative architectural design is only
successful when it is functional to the users, environmentally and
ecologically friendly, and is able to withstand the test of time"
Arthur C.S. Kwok
Project Approach
We handle each project with care and respect, incorporating its
owner's brief, the end-users' needs and expectations, and exploring
full potential of the site. We offer our clients well thought out
but viable designs for selection rather than single solutions. Our
design team applies a process of self-criticism throughout the course
of the project. Proposed building forms and proportions, spatial
and circulation relationships, as well as the finishes and details
are all placed under scrutiny by each other. Clients' budgetary
and time constraints are incorporated as part of the design challenge
and we adhere to them with professional respect and discipline.
We schedule regular meetings and exchanges of ideas with our clients
and consultants, and invariably develop long lasting friendship
upon completion of the projects.
Physical and Environmental Integration
We believe it is important to consider an architectural or interior
design in its proper context. We challenge ourselves to create buildings
that are harmonious with their environment, preserving as much of
the natural landscape as possible, with an emphasis of circulatory
and spatial relationships between the interior and the exterior.
An example of how much we respect ecology is Yong
An Park,
a major residential development in Singapore. In order to preserve
a 200 year-old Banyan tree on the site, we planned the domestic
blocks carefully around it in a such way that both man-made structures
and nature can co-exist complimentarily.
User-friendly Architectural & Interior Spaces
AKAA is committed to caring and user-friendly architecture and interiors.
We strive to design buildings and interiors which can allow the
occupants to work, live and play in comfort and harmony
Architectural features and landscape elements are
commonly found in our projects. Natural vegetation is an important
part of our design and planning vocabulary. Our interiors are well
proportioned, flexible, full of natural light, and spatially superior.
We believe in the balance of functions and forms in Architecture.
Also, our work should keep pace with the increasing demands of society
and its respect for ecology.
We respect each particular site, its context, its environment, and
its local culture. We are proud to see some of our buildings, completed
some 25 years ago, still relevant and enjoyed by their occupants
today. The 'Banyan Tree' Yong
An Park
remains one of Singapore's most prestigious residential properties
to date.
